Extradition

Extradition is a request by a foreign jurisdiction to obtain jurisdiction over a person, and to have that person transported to the requesting foreign state or country. Extradition is used in criminal matters only. If you are facing extradition, it is important to retain legal representation devoted to helping you secure a favorable outcome. Mr. Prieto dedicates much of his practice to defending the rights of individuals both here in the United States and abroad.

Extradition is a tool often employed to get jurisdiction over international DTO’s (Drug Trafficking Organizations). The Federal Government will file charges under seal and then seek extradition. The Federal Government does not have to prove the trafficker even had direct dealings within the U.S.; only that the illegal narcotics or a portion thereof were destined for the U.S. border.
